Our History

Cornerstone

In December of 1894, a small class of Christians was formed in the Village of Rexmont under the leadership of Rev. H.M. Wright who, as part of the Annville Circuit, was invited to preach every fourth week in a rented school house.  Shortly thereafter, on August 4, 1895, the cornerstone was laid for a new church building. The final dedication of the new church building ,then known as Rexmont United Evangelical Church, occurred on November 17, 1895, with Rev. B.J. Smoyer, District Superintendent of the United Evangelical Church, officiating.

Through a division within the United Evangelical Church, the Evangelical Congregational Church denomination was established on February 23, 1923, and thus the Rexmont Church, as we are known today.

"For the past 125 years the Rexmont Church has ministered to the needs of the Lebanon-Cornwall area and has sought to impact this area for Christ. Over this period of time many things have changed in the lifestyle of the people of this area, but one thing has remained constant. The gospel and the power of God to save through the blood of Jesus Christ is still the same." - Rev. W. Joel Copeland

Our people dedicate ourselves for both present and future service to God. We recognize that we are part of a movement of God that holds a very specific function. We recognize that we are to be a group of people who affirms the Word of God as authoritative, inerrant and inspired. We believe in the necessity and centrality of prayer. We desire to become a dynamic movement of God as we demonstrate a burning passion to know Him, Jesus Christ, more fully and intimately and to develop a missionary zeal to reach the lost with a message of hope and assurance. We are a people who are marked by holiness of heart and life. We wish to proclaim the Gospel to anyone who is willing to hear, and we wish to do this with a heart that is driven by humility and servanthood

Rexmont Church continues to be a group of Christian men and women who have chosen not to abandon our history, but rather to embrace it, and we would love to share our lives, our hopes, and our history with you as we live out our relationship with Jesus Christ every day.  If you would like to learn more, please contact us and someone will be most happy to sit down with you to hear your story, to share our heart, and to discover our common pathway on a marvelous journey with Jesus Christ.
